But he's always been doing that. I mean, Temple of the Dog was a pretty radical departure from Soundgarden at that time. And then when he joined Audioslave, a lot of people thought that was really weird. Even if you can't get past the Timbaland production aspect of it, I think if you hear the live version you'll be able to appreciate it.
